The experiment continues. This is a method I started up with the project for Studio Ronin. They gave me a tight deadline-13 pages in 20 days. Pencilled and inked. I pulled away from the tight finished pencils I normally do. I did loose pencils-more shape indicators-worked out the perspective, and went direct to INKS. This is risky, in a sense that the mistakes you make cannot be easily resolved. You have one shot to get get it right. That's what I gave my self. I used the same process for 24HCD Challenge. I enjoyed the results. The energy and spontaneous nature was addictive. So call me an INK addict? 1-This is a teaser for my Ashcan Cover. 2- These are 2 pages for another Anthology-just completed. Please let me know what you think. GGG.

You're an ink addict. Don't change that. I find your inking to be very easy to read and still give just enough detail and feathering to create variety. I started a new sketchbook recently where I go straight to inks for life-drawing. It was a little tip I picked up from Jim Mahfood on how to get better at drawing.
You're stuff looks good as always. Is this stuff going to be colored in the future, what kind of inking tools do you use?

Mr.V.
I'm having too much fun with the INKS right now. I misplaced my drawing tablet when I moved, been too tied up to dig it out. Still learning to color on Photoshop. I'll get it going again when my work load lightens up.
Inking tools- a refillable brush pen is now my best friend, with drawing that is!
What do you use to color?
Thanks.

Ironically enough, I picked up a refillable brush pen the day before 24 hour comic book day. I didn't use it then, but a pics later, I'm already in love! In addition to the brush pen, I also use pigment liners, illustration markers and a stiff end calligraphy pen recommended to my by Ashley Wood himself.
Believe it or not, I actually own an original sketch of his. I dunno if you're into Ashley Wood or not, but his inking rocks my boxers.
As far as coloring goes, I haven't colored anything in quite a while. I'm terrible with real paint, so I use photoshop for all my coloring needs. I don't have a tablet either, which makes it all the more challenging to be a real colorist.
Talk to ya laters,

I really like these inks, Gerald!
They remind me of Spanish graphic novels. The texture in the foliage and market elements is very nice. I especially like that the lines build form rather than merely outlining shapes.
Very cool.
Cheers! -Derek

Thanks Derek,
Funny when you just get that natural sense of light, when you are just reacting to the image in your head. You just stop thinking about form and make a direct translation on the page.
Hey can you recommend any good Colourists?
Thanks again.

Nice stuff, Gerald.
I actually don't much care for the similar line weights all through the comic... I have a hard time deciphering what is the focal point of each panel without some line-weight difference to draw my eye.
It's also hard to tell depth when everything has a similar line weight.
You're on the right track with the panel with some stronger blacks. (the third Caesar panel)
Nice compositions.
