One thing I have noticed (well, everyone hgas really)is that when it comes to reading scripts, people will avoid doing it whenever they can. So when i need to send a writing sample I tend to use this short three page script, as I figure at least with only 3 pages they might have a chance of reading it.
Magneto Script
By William Ward
Script Notes
In the winter of 1944-1945, as the Russian army closed in on Auschwitz, Magneto killed an SS soldier who was about to kill Magda, and the two of them escaped into the snowy woods to the northeast of the camp. Magneto was most likely 17 years old at this time. Magda was probably younger, around 14 or 15 years old. (Jacobs, 1)
General Instruction
To convey the dark mood of the time period use muted color. There is grey snow on the ground. The sky is a dull despite the story starting at sunrise. Dull colors will be contrasted by the pure white of Magneto’s hair, and the rich red of flowing blood. Do note mute these two items.

Page Notes: Panels 2-4 all happen in one moment of time. Use visuals (i.e. bullet trails) to guide readers through these panels quickly.
Panel #1: Foreground left, Background right – In the foreground young Magneto walks hunched over supporting Magda as they move away from the gates of Auschwitz They both wear worn out prisoner uniforms, with black and white stripes running top to borrom. They look sick and malnourished. In the background the Auschwitz gate can be seen. The words “Arbiet Macht Frei.” (Translation footnoted) are promptly displayed.
FOOTNOTE: * Work makes one free.
Panel #2: Magneto and Magna are under a tree. Bark fragments are flying, having been struck by gunfire. Magneto pulls Magda away from the tree as he looks up towards where the bullet struck the tree. Several more bullets are flying over the heads of both characters.
Panel #3: This panel shows a German Officer, and obvious member of the Nazi party looking through binoculars and a German foot-soldier standing beside him.
Panel #4: Reverse Angle of Panel #2 – This panel shows the same German Soldiers from panel #2 firing. At least one rifle should be discharging at the moment of the panel takes place.
Panel #5: Magneto and Magda are running. Magneto is in front, he is nearly dragging her behind him. We see trees in the background as they pass into the forest. Bullets fly around the pair.
Page #2
Panel #1: Magneto and Magda are hiding behind a tree, the soldiers searching nearby cannot spot them from their position. Magneto is looking at his hand. In his hand he holds three metal buttons.
Panel #2: More soldiers in the woods, including the German Officer (Page 1 / Panel 3). One of the soldiers holds the leashes of two German Shepherds.
Panel #3-8: This series of panels are divided left to right into five small panels. Magneto is attempting to lift the buttons with his powers. Each shot is a close-up of Magneto that gets closer with each panel. Starting with a shot that includes both shoulders, hand, and head the last shot shows on part of his face and the hand holding the floating buttons. Magneto shows signs of straining during these panels, including sweating and strain in his face muscles through the first four of these panels. In the fourth panel he strains and one button starts to float, in the last the straining is gone and all three buttons float.
Panel #9: Magneto reveals himself, and the soldier spot him. One metallic button has already flown from Magneto’s hand and has hit the soldier in the head. Blood explodes from head.
Page #3
Panel #1: Large Panel – Magneto fully unleashed abilities to devastating effect—killing soldiers, bending weapons, and deflecting bullets. Magneto shields Magda during the assault. The officer, dog, and soldiers are all shown here--many falling under Magneto’s attack.
Panel #2: Magneto collapses on the ground. Magda looks shocked, sitting over his collapsed body. A sign that he has used all of the power he could muster, a single button lays on the ground beside him. Bodies of fallen enemies lay around them.
Panel #3: On Magneto’s Face - Magda holds Magneto’s head in her lap. Magneto is crying.
Magda (off panel): You saved us. Why are you crying?
Panel #4: Magneto, now on his knees, looks up and raises his hand as if catching the ash that is gently fall into it. Magda is holding him gently. The ash looks like gray snow.
Magneto: Because I can’t do it again.
Panel #5: This panel shows the smoke towers of Auschwitz.
