In a basic sense there is no difference (visually)
In the overall sense, it's basically where you can log in at any time on any computer and update your "blog", instead of editing html pages and uploading them. And then have an archive of blogs by the day or however.
make sense?
the advantage should then be pretty plain to see. Your updates happen automatically and can be archived on the fly ... where if you're editing html and uploading, you only basically do it on one computer and have to upload a new file every time you change something.

Thanks that makes sense. But do you buys a hosting service and pay hosting fees and domain for blogs or you sign up as freebee which doesn't require any domain?

Thanks that makes sense. But do you buys a hosting service and pay hosting fees and domain for blogs or you sign up as freebee which doesn't require any domain? Either or, really. I used to run my blog on my website's front page, simply because it was easy enough to log in to my script from anywhere and make announcements about site updates, etc. But as I started talking about more personal stuff and as many of my friends started making the move to forming their own journals on livejournal, I signed up for an account there (free) and that's where I now confine my personal rantings/postings/linkage. On the other hand, there are a fair number of independant blog sites that are great resources. In particular, I follow www.cartoonbrew.com and www.drawn.ca most often, as they both provide insight in to the operations of both the animation and illustration industries.

This reply is based on "I believe this to be true"
You can go either way. I think you can find "free blog" places all over. Some are integrated within a community sorta like Deviant art (I believe), so that you'll be a 'like minded' environment. Or you will simply have some sorta blog site ... that may have ads to support the "free-ness"
or you can get your domain/hosting. like $5 or $7 a month and $10/year domain reg. ... and grab a php script (or the like) and run a blog yourself.
My hosting is very inexpensive and has a bunch of services and is one of the only places I've found that accepts PayPal as payment since I don't have a credit card.

Hey guys, thanks for the tons of info here. Reading all your comments and suggestions, I might consider blogging my site or incorporate it with my old site. It still a very huge change for me since I haven't touch something like this. I'll also check some of the blog sites and get more info there.
Again many thanks for now. This thread is still open if anyone wnats to add more. ;D
