To all Maple Ink Comic- Members: Starting TODAY you are all invited to sign up at the new MIC2mic.spacylittlecowgirl.net/phpBB2/index.php The content line-up remains close to the original, but in a simpler format. We are given several "style settings" to choose from in "profiles" further updates will follow. Please give FC a HUGE thank you for all the work! MIC1 will remain in operation. Changes will be made. Some of the forums will be locked, as traffic is directed to the new site. Please let me know which sections you would like to keep active. Thank you for being part of the MIC community. GarSeeYa!!!

Thank you very much for all your hard work, Florence. I just signed up.
I must admit, though, I'm confused as to why this second Maple Ink site is being made. Is the plan to completely faze out this current site and switch everybody over to the new site?
And, um, this might be an awkward question, but it's probably best to ask it anyway: if the site is moving from free Proboards to a new domain that isn't free, will we have to start paying for MIC?

And, um, this might be an awkward question, but it's probably best to ask it anyway: if the site is moving from free Proboards to a new domain that isn't free, will we have to start paying for MIC? As it is currently, no. This is part of my webspace, which was expanded mostly because of the amount of time i'm been with my provider (They basically doubled the size of my account and bandwidth...for free). Everything is paid up for two years. Only visible issues to me at this point is managing the size of the database (which shouldn't be a problem if backed up on a regular basis) and bandwidth, which I will also monitor on a regular basis. Addendum: If it ever DOES become an issue, no individual member will ever have to pay for MIC to be on my webspace. I will be monitoring traffic and the database enough that we'll know ahead of time if we need to move or expand the space alotted. We can discuss options then.

I'm guessing a URL redirection is probably going to be in place? That URL is even longer than this one.
redirection.net has some great (and inexpensive) services, included with it is unlimited accounts with email forwarding. So people like Gerald could have an MIC domain name email.

by all means - registering a domain name will be the best thing to establishing MIC's online presence.

I concur. A domain is needed.

if it suits, in the mean time, i can probably put a basic redirection coding on the subdomain page (IE: mic.spacylittlecowgirl.net) if you prefer. I might also be able to use my other domain name (cosmicdare.net) to redirect to the mic... but it might take some time for that to proliferate.
Will let you know how that turns out.

redirect script has been initiated. For ease of access for the moment, you can use mic.spacylittlecowgirl.net and it should redirect within five seconds.

New forum looks great, but what is the purpose again? Not to sound like an ungrateful twit, but I don't have any qualms with the old MIC. The new one is very nicely designed though.

I think the major concerns were brought up in this thread: micomics.proboards36.com/index.cgi?board=TALK2&action=display&thread=1120509034I agree that things are going good on this proboards message board, and don't have a problem with staying on proboards, however it does concern me that the proboards system hosts invasive advertisments and that the multitude of areas for discussion at this point is confusing and a bit redundant. My only reason for putting up a phpBB system was to consider what options were available in a more controlled setting. I have no qualms either way should MIC stay with proboards or use the phpBB.

FC - Good work on setting up the new board. Will all the posts here be migrated to the new board, or should we be archiving the stuff we'd like to keep now? Thanks - Scott p.s. your avatar is driving me nuts.

I think it's just a matter of time before we all migrate to the other board. The new, delicious board.

Thanks - Scott Scott, I agree there are several threads that are worth keeping, but I don't know of a simple way to transfer the files. Archive what you'd like. MIC1 will remain operation, but some of the sections will be locked(starting Saturday-09/07/05) to encourage the use of the new site. Thanks. G.
