I wanted to get a better idea for attendance. Remember this event is open to family and friends. I am listing those who have expressed interest with "*" until confirmation.
Let me know if you are attending, and the number of extra people. I will check with City Parks dept. to see if we need to pay for anything for large groups(?), or to book a spot.

I'd suggest contacting Parks/Rec soon - most of the parks in Calgary do require booking even for smaller groups because they have to allocate space for the grills and firewood drop-offs (should it be requested).
As for me, it's doubtful I'll have any guests. Will update as necessary.

I will call City Park & Rec today (06/23)!
Mr. Vince suggested starting a list for food everyone is taking to the BBQ. We'll do it here...
I'm bringing Pasta Salad (enough for 12?)
If you can, bring portable chairs.
Thanks.
G.
Update:9:38 AM- It would COST $246.00 to book a spot. $0.00 if we just show up and save a spot for the group. Site # 2 has a playground for the kids, this is my preference. If we don't get a spot...I have a portable gas BBQ, chairs and mats. A tent and or canopy/tarp may come in handy if it rains.

A guest. A date? Ack, too much pressure. I am forced, yet again, to go stag.
I'll bring, say 48 buns, and some bags of chip-type things. I'll kick in a bit for burgers if you need it.

If T and I can make it at all, I think it'd be best if we were signed in for chips, or something else we could pick up at a store on the way, seeing as I'm not going to be in a position to make the standard triple-threat dip collection of seafood, onion, and hummous dips I usually cart along to these sorts of events.

I take it there's no liquor involved seeing as it's a public place and all. Shucks I say, shucks. I'm pretty sure I'll be there, i'll bring some patties for myself and a few others and maybe some corn for grilling.

I'll be there.
I'm really not too sure what kind of food I should bring, though. If somebody here notices that we're way short on some kind of food, then please announce it here or just order me to get some and I'll bring some of that. Also, I'm okay with giving money and no food, just so you know.
If I don't hear anything, then maybe I'll bring some sort of meat...some sort of sausages, maybe. And some condiments?...ketchup and mustard. And maybe some buns. And maybe I'll bring my amazingly tiny tent (just in case it rains), because it's easy to carry.

How many of you are familiar with the layout of Bowness Park?
If you are where and what part of the park would you like to set up?
I would suggest the east most camp kitchen, parking near the bowness park cafe, and east across the two bridges passing the boating house. Presupposing its available. Otherwise you may have to circle around until you find one. I beleive there are 3 main camp kitchens.
I might be able to go and save a location, considering I live the closest, but I cant guarantee that as my family is still unsure about whats happening that day... shrug... let me know what you think and what you like.
As for food, um... Im always rather indecisive, bowness does have a rather good bakery across the street from where I live, perhaps Ill pick up some desserts.

This is on CANADA DAY LONG WEEKEND!
The weather looks to be cooperating for this event. I expect it to be busy at the park. I set this up to start at 4:00 PM, but if anybody is up to holding down the fort/kitchen a bit earlier..,that would help out.
I'm not too picky about location, just enough room for us all?

Hey GGG -
How about a clear list of who's bringing what food, and what we think is good for that? That way, hopefully, we can avoid duplications or a lack of something.

Scott,
I'll tack it on the confirmation list, following names.
A list of other supplies: a sketchbook, drawing supplies, insect repelant, sunscreen, water, matches, fire starter, paper to burn, paper towels,cuttlery...etc? Always better to bring more than we need.
GGG.

I'm just checking...did everyone get the mass email I sent out? I never got a confirmation or "messege sent"notice.
Just a thought, I could make up little MIC flags to stick on car bumpers. So we can find the group a little faster?

Nope no email received here.
If I recall right, there is a information board at the gate of Bowness Park to announce where your party is meeting. If I happen to get around to the park first Ill check the board and post if I saved a spot. Im still unsure what my family is doing so I cant yet guarantee I can get in the Park early.
Stickers sounds great G.

Re: mass mailout.
The system said it would take half an hour to send to message to all recipients-there are over 80 people to send to. Guess I didn't wait long enough.
I will send it out again.
Thank You.
GGG.
Note: at 12:21 AM, mass email was sent out again. I need one confirmation to varify.
Thanks.

why don't you break up the list into 2 or 3 sendouts. That might prevent the time-outs.

Some other things to think about bringing... blankets (to sit on, since we'll be sitting on hard wooden benches, plus it could get chilly), tablecloths, and of course, fun stuff like Frisbees, footballs, etc.
We'll bring more firewood because the wood provided probably won't be enough. Actually, we have lots that we can bring, so if nobody else brings extra, I'm guessing there will still be plenty anyway.
OH! Don't forget sticks (or straightened-out coathangers!) for weenie and marshmallow roasting! And cooking utensils too. Nothing worse than trying to flip burgers over a roaring fire with a plastic fork!

Re: Mail Out.
No Go. Cut & paste is just too time consumming. I do have some deadlines to meet..I should have asked for volunteers to contact MIC members who we have heard from in a while.
We may need people to step up and take on promotions and communications. MIC is starting to grow beyond my hands. It takes work to talk to everyone.
I've been doing this for four months now.
With new projects going, I may not show up as regularly. I won't totally go away...just a break.
MIC is working. Communication is its main purpose. "Making connections with creative talent" says it all on my business card.
3:00 AM...another hour to draw then off to bed.

Here's a little PHP script for mailing. It may take a moment to set up, but once it's set up you just click the buttons and type your message. scripts.allinwonder.org/phpmailer/
