Ledsoul & Remandcenter or anybody close to Bowness Park, we may need a "condition report" on the grounds. Will it be dry enough? Friday would be the day to make an assesment.
Temprance- has given us the alternative of her Mother's acrage, five minutes out of town. I have a few phone numbers, but a map to the location would help. This is "Plan B'.
Bowness is still the choice for now.
Thanks.

Remandcenter may not get this message due to lack of computer time ... I'll be driving past it on Thurs, I'll see if I can get a report. Ledsoul may get a report faster.

Well, if conditions were bad before, the next day or two of rain will pretty much squash that plan. As for that acrage, it sounds good, but I don't have a ride for that. If things just won't turn out for this, maybe we should postpone until conditions are more favorable. But don't let me hold all of you back. Seriously, don't.

I have to agree with Vince for the same reasons.
It's not just the MIC BBQ, the City is having to move a lot of Canada Day activities to alternate venues because of water. Prince's Island is still under water.

I need a heads up to let my ma know if we're commin... but it shouldn't be a problem. We have tons of space and a garage to hide in if it rains. There's a barbeque pit and... assuming it gets real dry real fast we could put the Teepee up... though I doubt it ¬_¬
We can arrange rides if need be. It's just west out of town past rocky ridge. I can give a phone # and directions should the venue be changed to the rent's place.

With two motions to postpone-this goes to a VOTE.
Plan "B" would work, if everyone has a ride. Park conditions may be less than favourable.
If we have 6[/] for postponement- we'll have to reschedule for another time.
Please let me know what you think. We'l make the call at 11:00 PM tonight.
Thanks.

Well, I checked the weather channel, it say's scattered showers on Friday and Saturday.
I'm sorry, I really do want a BBQ to happen, but I think the odds are against us this weekend. So I vote for postponement.

If there is a possibility of showers, it seems like a good idea to postpone ... no sense in doing it "just because", when I'm sure another weekend could be better and more enjoyable. There's only so much rain a person can handle.
maybe in a week, if it looks like things could be better.

I vote postponement.
If it does go through.... Super! it shouldn't be a problem, but really, standing around in a garage, running down to the BBQ pit with an umbrella to cook for 5 minutes isn't worth it. Besides, although there is plenty of field space to spread out on, driving sucks. we'd have to organize rides or do the taxi thing (buses don't go out to bearspaw)

I also vote to postpone - I don't know for sure since I haven't checked personally, but I'm guessing the park could still be soggy regardless of whether we get more rain between now and Saturday?? Perhaps we're better off waiting for more favorable conditions, weather- and park-wise.

Well Bowness Park is no longer under water as it was and as far as the weather goes, we could hold this anywhere and weather would be a concern, the only alternative is to locate someplace indoors to meet. (On that note, Bowness park has several sheltered kitchens.
I was considering scheduling myself to get into the park around or before 2 saturday to mark out territory, (Ill drink lots before I leave.) But yeah given the Canada day events who knows what may come to pass.
Ill make a sure check tonight, to read the posting boards down there and get a clearer veiw as to what the weekend may look like in the Park.

I vote to postpone. On a related note, here's a link to a flood slideshow a friend sent me. The PDF about 900kb: Flood SlideshowCiao for now.

The Park is not underwater, aside from the odd puddle. I was there tonight, taking my gambit daughter with me to scout the terrain. There is no longer a posting board there for events and the likes, just the usual city message saying to call (268 CITY). The Park is largely a free for all, there are areas set aside for 'permit holders' (that being the nice side of the park, if it were to be called such). In the center is the cafe, the boat rental and the parkland railway and minigolf for the kids, no doubt to be a major attraction this weekend. Further west through the park are the more public areas, these will have to be scouted and squated early. The weather reports to be good for the weekend. (but this is Calgary.)
Points of impact though are the increasing mosquito population, not as horendous as it has been in the past, yet a pest irregardless. (Just keep off the grass if thats possible and you may be fine)
Although I would like to meet many of you this weekend and no doubt enjoy your company, Im not adverse to the will of the majority. (Perhaps if a few members were to form a small group to stage a revolt against the many, I would be inclined to join.) I do love coffee.
More to report Friday if it be your need.

Ledsoul, if you just want to get together for coffee in a mosquito free, dry coffee shop, then I'm down for that. We can exchange war stories and sketchbooks.
Overall, I can see some promising change for the BBQ to happen, but again, with the weather, the last minute changes, and the Canada Day weekend crowds, its hard to say if we could pull it off.

I'm tempted to vote for postponement -- it just feels like circumstances have dampened enthusiasm for the event (if you'll pardon the pun), and I hate the idea of MIC losing some of the post-ACCA show momentum trying to force an event that a significant number of people don't feel they can get behind.
Gerald, if you decide to go ahead with the event, give Tiina's cellphone a call. I'll try and get hold of you on Saturday, too.
Best, A

MAJORITY VOTE TO POSTPONE!
We re-schedule for another weekend. Early in July, some members are off to San Diego and are most likely doing preparations. August will have the Edmonton Comic Talks and The Calgary Comic and Toy Fest.
The 3rd or 4th Saturday in July may work best?
We'll try again.
Thanks Everybody!

Actually, Mr. Steve's getting married the last weekend of the month, and he's got a bachelor party the weekend before. So you'll have to count a few of the VA guys out.

MAJORITY VOTE TO POSTPONE! The 3rd or 4th Saturday in July may work best? Not that this should overly influence your decision, but Happy Harbor would probably appreciate it if you could keep August as free of events as you can manage--we're already running into snags with scheduling COMIC TALKS as it is...
