Hi there, my name is Devon. I like to think of myself as a "Jack of all trades", I write, I draw, I ink, I tone, I letter... I do everything. My published work is limited... I have done a few logos, some miniature design, and I have some published works through Konsequential Studios ( www.amonkstale.com) in Short Term Konsequences volumes 1, 2, and 3 (slated for release in July)and Out of Mind Studios ( www.outofmindstudios.com), inks for Dead Last. I was also fortunate enough to draw a short (but crappy) mini comic for Arcana Studios ( www.arcanastudio.com ) new line of Shockinis toys. Sean has promised I get to do an alternative cover in the furture... so here's hoping ^_^ I have a few viewable galleries: my portfolio page: www.outofmindstudios.com/DevonJopling/index.htmland my everything page: temperance.deviantart.comRight now I am working on my own Indy graphic novel. Since I'm doing it all, it's a lot of work. The script is still on the go... but I'm motivated. Nice to meet you all.

Hey Dev, Welcome to the board! Are you doing EVERYTHING on your book? Does that make you a control freak? Or is this just the way to go for you? I really like the tone work. Where do you get those pages again. A link would be appreciated. Thank You. GarSeeYa!!!

Heh, yes. I am doing everything. I toss ideas back and forth with Kevin, mainly on grammar and structure, but I have endeavoured to write, pencil, ink, tone, scan, letter... and possibly publish the whole darn thing on my own. I don't think it has much to do with control... more to do with... I don't want to force a singlar passion onto anyone else but myself. People have their own ideas and projects, and I don't know enough people who ink or letter or so on to take on other aspects of the work. As for toning, I still buy the deleter bundles from Blue Line Pro. They are listed in the Diamond previews catalogue (usually near the import section), or online at: www.bluelinepro.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=BL&Category_Code=006MAQ. The one unfortunate of going through Blue Line pro is you HAVE to buy them in bundles. Which more often then not, means you are stuck with several screen tones you may never use. If you want to buy single tones, akadot ( www.akadotretail.com/shop/shop_showtones.php) has a variety of tones from IC screen and Deleter. However shipping is really expensive. This would not be worth your while unless you want to buy a lot of tones at once. Their supplies are also limited, so you may not get all of or as many of a certain tone that you wish. As for preference... IC screen is probably my more favorite of the two brands. The sheets are thinner and blend to the page better, however they are also smaller than deleter and usually more expensive. For beginners, I would suggest blue line pro's deleter bundles. I will be toning down at the cons in May. If you want to see how it's done I'll be at Otafest (May 21-22) and ACCA (May 28).

Thanks for the info. I 'll have to get try it out sometime.
If you do a demo at the shows, I wonder if BLUELINE or DELETER would sponsor you, and give you a price break on the tones?
Since you mentioned it "Otafest'- do they have a site?

Hey Devon,
Hows it going? You stated in an earlier post that short-term consequences vol.3 was slated for release in July? I was under the impression that vol.3 was dubuting at the ACCA con. None the less, what stories did you do for vol.3?
Thanks,
-Vince-

Hey Devon,
I saw your stuff in the other STK's. It's really nice. If you can get up the cash, you should put out your own book. Nothing wrong with Kandrix and Co, and you could still contribute to STK, but I really think your work could stand on its own.
I have a buddy in Saskatoon who put out his own mini-series almost ten years ago and he is just finishing the fourth and final book now. That's a long time, but a very satisfying trip. That's how it goes when you pay your own way.
Hope to see more of your work on these boards!
Cheers! -Derek

None the less, what stories did you do for vol.3? Yeeeup, Drix e-mailed everyone in... uhhh... January think and said they pushed back the due date for final art and therefore pushed back the publishing date. Don't ask me, I think we're all a little lost. I'm done my bit, I'm just waiting for them to ask me for money.

I'll have some samples and original art, and a few technical drawings for my book ready to display at the ACCA con in May. Now I just have to finish the d**n script. Curse you script! CURSE YOUUUUU!!!! *Shakes a fist of rage*

Just to let you know, Devon, that those two framed images that I got from you take the place of honor on my desk: on a shelf above the computer monitor on either side of my 12" Batman figurine. Now THAT'S appreciation of your art! By the way, when am I getting some more?

Now THAT'S appreciation of your art! By the way, when am I getting some more? Aw sweet, that's awesome. Of course, those two were still probably two of my best. I have a whole new stack of original framed art all set and ready for the ACCA con. I'm also making mini artbook ashcans and limited edition prints this year. Please buy stuff, I'm unemployed and need the money. ^_^;;;;

Yeah, it was nice talking to you as well. I did finish, at exactly 8am. AND managed to squeeze in 5 hours of sleep. Mwahaha!
Now I'm sleepy and my neck is sore... so very sore... ~_~
For those who didn't make it down to the event, I had about 10 blue pencils in a big pile so I didn't have to get up every five seconds and sharpen one. Yeeeup, me and my wad of blue pencils.

Hello Devo! I think I have permanant finger indentation from the 24 hour comic marathon. My figure is still sore! But what a great experience that was. I had a great time and hope everyone else did as well. Oh, and you are evil for being able to get yours done by 8a.m. and still sleep! EVIL!!!! ;D But thanks for hanging around to cheer me on.

Oh please, your comic looked better than mine anyway. I'm so impressed how far you've improved art-wise.
Me? I just got speed.

;D Thanks Devo! I still think your stuff kicks butt on what I do but I always appreciate good compliments. I'm going to be working on my projects this weekend and hope to have things done so I can make preview copies. Are you going to be able to get Kev's stroy done for ACCA?

Oy! ^_^;;;
y'know I haven't even touched it. My new job means I'm up at 6 and in bed by ten, with the hour commute each way I only have about 4 hours in the evening in which to draw/read/write/etc. Then My ashcan for the ACCA con looked like crap when the draft was printed, so I had to re-scan and re-assemble the whole d**n thing at a higher dpi. And my poor neglected boyfriend tends to get the brunt of my scedual. T_T
I don't know If I'll be able to work on it at all. Maybe I'll grab some pages and draw in New York.

The job is ok. Though it has consumed the remainder of my life. I haven't picked up a pencil since the 24 hour comic challenge. bBut I'm bringing a pencil and sketchpat to New York, hopefully I'll get a chance to draw.

Hi Devon -
I picked up your two books at the con and took the time to look through them today. Good stuff. Your note in Beautiful Dreams about "putting more effort into backgrounds" is a good direction to go in. The pieces that were more about urban and sci fi appealed to me as I'm not much into fantasy.
Keep up the good work.

Thanks ^_^ I appreciate you picking up my book.
When I'm not drawing fantasy, my next favorite is actually military. I own more books on military, warfare and guns then any woman should. heh ^_^
I had a comic in the works with a sci-fi military theme... but it got pushed aside for other projects. I might go back to it one day...
