Had an awsome time meeting everyone during and after the event - feedback received v. motivational!
Still bouncing off the walls from V. Coffee, rum and coke and 2 more coffees after that. No longer as tired as I thought. Can totally tell this amt of coffee + waking up early for work in the morning will be a bad combo....
Nevertheless - had a great time!
Thnx for putting the event on!

The best part about the show...the sense of community we had. With so many people on MIC being there- it gave me a feel of what it was like when I got together with friends after classes in college. It was relaxed and exciting at the same time.
The post con get together, at Saigon Y2K, was the best. We had 9 people signed up. 27 people showed up. (22 at one table-5 at another) Funny how the Artist, being part of the show don't actually get to mingle until after the show. Conversation was segmented, no way to hear all that was being talked about. It was a lively group. Huge portions for a meal, but some still had room for ice cream at DQ. Part of the group hung out, infront of the restaurant & liquor store. Shooting the breeze. The late comers (5) were Doug Wheatley, Igor Kordey, Rebecca & Pete Woods, and Ismail Wamala. We waited for some of them to finish up...it was hard to keep track of every body. Part of the group was already ahead of us at Nick's patio. Some had already gone. Good byes...was very pleasant, we even gave hugs. Funny how tight Artist get sometimes, I got a hug from Doug and Rebecca ( who I just met) and Ismail and Dario.
It was a good day.
Now there's talk of doing a BBQ this summer.( Maybe July, when you make it down Andrew?) This may turn out to be a family event. All MIC members welcome.
I want to have more days like this. G.
Added: Please vote on a location for the BBQ on the TALK TALK section on MIC.
Thanks. GarSeeYa!!!

I concur. It is nice to know people as comic people, but I would like to get to know some folks. Being relatively new to town, this would be great. It would be cool for my son to grow up in a culture like this as well. Im all for a summer BBQ.

I'm glad the dinner worked out so well. It was fun to put names to faces from MIC people. Thanks Ger for making those name tags for everyone.
Yeah! BBQ! Woo! We could do it in Bowness park or someplace with a lot of room, or maybe if someone has a big backyard....

BBQ sounds like an awsome idea. If anything though, I think we'll probably have to plan quickly if it's to be in July.
I know I'll be out of town closer to mid/late July for my cousin's wedding, but most of the other time should be open.

Im really getting a community vibe now, despite what might become a useless junior high rivalry with another indy studio. I saw its potential at the 24 hour comic book day, but at the con, I really got to see some progress for a real art community. I just hope this forum keeps growing steadily and people keep contributing.
The convention was really good. I wish it was two days now. I barely got to talk to any of the pros or even any of the other indy artists. I think I did about 14 convention sketches in total including a Nick Fury some guy forgot to pick up. I got to see some people off the forum and our sales were pretty good. Getting the VA out there.
Again, sorry VA couldn't join you guys for dinner afterwards. It was just such a last minute thing, and we planned our own afterparty weeks ago. Maybe next year guys, that'd be cool!
All in all, best Saturday I've had this year.

Yeah, I had an awesome time too. I finally got to meet a lot of the local talent that I'd heard about but never actually interacted with.
There's still a whole bunch of you left on my checklist to meet, though, heh heh, so I'm looking forward to the next "Calgary comic community" event, whatever/whenever that will be.
See you then!

it was definitely good seeing everyone, but holy crapoli was I dying of no sleep!! I was pretty much dead for the rest of the weekend, paying for the no sleep from the week leading up to the con.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to add my two cents here as well! My husband and I had never been to a comics/toys event like this, so it was a pretty cool and fun first time for us. We wandered around, taking everything in, and just enjoyed the atmosphere. It was really good to see Dario in person again (we are in contact all the time but actually meet up only once or twice a year - I'm sure you know how that goes). I met a lot of the people who are from MIC, which was really great, too. Sorry we didn't make it to the after-event dinner It's a great idea to plan a few social events throughout the year, and the BBQ next month would be really fun. I vote for Bowness. You can reserve a spot there, and they will supply firewood for you as well. The only thing about that is that someone has to get there early and guard the wood so it doesn't grow legs and walk off to other people's fires. I am pretty sure there's a fee for the firewood...maybe $10 or so...?
