As some of you may already know, I worked on an animated pilot last year for a show called Raven Tales. The show did really well as it toured North American film festivals grabbing awards along the way. Well, financing was assembled and work is already underway for 6 more episodes. I started today on some animation pre-production and boy was I rusty. Ah well, I'll get into the swing of things soon enough. The studio I work for is New Machine right here in Calgary. Check it out. The Pilot aired on Access in February, I don't know if they'll air it again, but the DVD is on sale at the Studio. Or you could watch it at my place. Thats all for now. -Vince-

d**n that's awesome. I'va always wanted to do animation, but I always have a hard time drawing the same picture over and over, I've just done some mid-grade Flash animated stuff. That sounds cool, I wish I had a job like that.

Whoops, shoulda mentioned it was 3D animation. I miss doing 2D, but there's really no market for that in this part of Canada. That, and I'm really out of practice for traditional animation. I had a few ideas for some cool personal 2D projects including a Vicious Ambitious one, but we'll see what happens in the near future.

Even better. I used to do 3D for a few years but got out of touch with it with working and family and stuff. Nothing a year back in it wouldn't solve. NOW I definitely wish I could get a job like that. Way to make me jealous.

Wow, that's exciting! That looks like such a cool and original project. What part did you work on?

Thanks Scott, Chris, Fiona.
Chris, animation and comics are my two mistresses. I just feel this need to create one way or the other. 3D seems to grow leaps and bounds every year. If you're still into it, grab a book and get clickin! Though the journey will be long and perilous.
Fiona, I worked mostly on the first half the pilot. We didn't get dedicated to any one particular character, so we were all over the place with the show. I only do animation, the other departments take care of modelling, texturing, lighting, storyboards and whatnot. With this new job I got promoted to lead animator, so I'll be doing scene layout for the junior animators and get thrown into the animation pit every now and then. I'm psyched to be part of a growing studio getting much needed experience. Though every job I've done has taught me that no one is truly organized. Chaos is inevitable, but should be put into an indian leg lock whenever possible.
I was cutting a demo reel of the work I did on Raventales, but once I got the job, it didn't seem so necessary to finish it. I'm pretty close, so I might just cut it together one of these days once I find the right music, and post it here. I could also post my old demo reel from school or the really, really, really, badly done 2D film from school as well. Let me know what you think.

I remember you saying that you were going to get an animation job, but still...that is so cool! Good job!

Vince,
Good to hear people getting jobs they love to do!
If you're up to bringing your demo reels, when we have MIC Jam on the 18th, we'd like to see them!

Cog, FC: Thanks
Gerald: I don't think I'll be able to get any DVD authoring software before the 18th, so I think the easiest way would be to just post it here in divx format. Stay tuned!
