I was at the TCAF may 28 to may 29 and it was a great experience. The festival focused purely on independent, small press comics and self publishing and was hosted by the Beguiling (A truely amazing comic store). It was a great way to celebrate the medium of comics and diversity of storytelling. There were a few panel discussions, some involving Paul Pope and Jeff Smith, in various locations and other random chaotic events typical of a festival in it's second year. The event was an outdoor (tented) street festival and free to the public, so there was an amazing atmosphere of fans, artists and curious public. Small presses included Insominiac Press, Drawn and Quarterly, Top Shelf Productions, peddlar press, and Scholastic Canada which is printing the colorized version of Jeff Smith's Bone. Although the retailers and artists were there by invitation only, I was impressed by the all the quality work being produced by the local Toronto comic community. It was great to see some hand printed work there aswell. A few artist there had hand silkscreened some covers and posters and Sean Cheng (www. partykausa.com) really inspired me in the direction of my own work.
