As of this month, the new Star Wars movie arrives. I know that technically, it's not a comic book movie, but I'm sure you'll all agree that it is certainly in the spirit. I've seen the trailers, and I'm psyched! This might actually redeem George Lucas. My question is this....Is it too much too late to save the sprawling saga? The Fantastic Four. I'd be lying if I didn't say that I've been waiting for this for a long time - since Byrne was actually a good writer. However, there's some little voice inside that warns me to be wary! It might suck! I don't know...Doc Doom being bombarded with cosmic rays? Doom turning into metal? Doom being a wealthy industrialist? This alone caused me to not order the action figures. I will wait and see how it all comes out. Batman Begins! The trailers keep getting better and better!!!!I love the 'Year One' approach! I love the fact that they cast Christian Bale! I love 'The Tumbler'. My gut instinct is that it will rock! However, I hope Batman dosen't fly around too much like in the latest teaser... My future predictions (even past summer): Star Wars 3: HIT! F.F.: MISS! Batman: HIT! Superman: MISS! x-men 3: MISS! Ghost Rider: HIT! Any opinions? ??

I must change one of my predictions...
I've been catching Bryan Singer's 'BLOGS", an internet insider's look at the daily production of Superman through completion. After seeing the half dozen or so 'BLOGS', I am changing my prediction on Superman. It , I think will be a hit. His whole approach to the story, from what I've seen will put the 'man' in Superman. Check it out at www. bluetights.net The man is a comic-savvy genius. -Rik

Saw 'Star Wars 3' tonight!
Well, it was better than the last two, which isn't really saying much. I would give it about an 8 out of 10 stars.
In perspective, I would rate (in episodic order) 'Star Wars 1' as a 6 out of ten, 'Star Wars 2' as a seven, 'Star Wars 4' (the original recipe) as a 9, 'Star Wars 5' (Empire)as a 10, and 'Star Wars 6' as a 6. It explained the events relatively good, but still left me scratching my head about a few gaping continuity errors and groaning over obvious plot holes.
I didn't understand Anakin's easy conversion to the dark side as one minute he's going to turn in the Emperor to the authoriities, and the next minute he's all gung ho to slaughter the Jedi. The Padme motivation didn't wash with me, as I felt there should have been more conflict within the character.
Has anyone else seen it? Have an opinion ?

Ep3 ... for me, it was okay. George Lucas couldn't direct to save his life. He has all these fine actors and they are so dull, it's like he left the cameras rolling during rehearsal and only kept the first take.
For properly, Ep1 and 2 should have fit together and they should have made a solid effort with Anikin's conversion.
Ep3 should have ended with the mask going on his face with that suction noise , cut instantly to black and just had the Vader breathing for like 30 seconds or so .... then done. None of the stupid stuff after.
I swear, I'm going to take all 3 of these episodes and cut them into a proper storytelling movie.

Hmmm. It kind of makes you wonder what the prequels would have been like if he had hired directors like he did for Empire and Jedi, dosen't it? Hey, maybe that's why those two still stand as better cinema.
Who would you have chosen to direct Episode 1, 2 and 3? If I were George, I would have picked Gore Verbinski (pirates of the carribean) for 1, Bryan singer (x-men)for 2 and Alex Proyas (The Crow) for 3.
Thoughts??? -Rik

Yeah, I'm really split on Episode 3. I mean, the effects, the fights, the designs were all really good, but I mean that's pretty much the standard for the new Star Wars movies. So nothing new there.
I really think this movie was a lame attempt at wrapping up the series and trying to connect with the original trilogy. The acting was pretty good in this movie, with the exception of Natalie Portman, she seemed a little too dry. I could see how Anakin wanted to learn the dark side to save Padme, but at the end, why would he stick around? It seemed really lost to me after that. That, and this is Vader in his prime. We don't get to see him really do anything but crush a room with the force. Thats it.
The droid army seemed to all have cheeky personalities which was pretty unnecessary and Chewbacca did not need to be in this movie at all. That ET-esque scene with Yoda and the wookies was really lame. There seem to have been some red herrings thrown in too, like Darth Plagueus and his ability to create life at will with the force. They could have gone further with that concept and the immaculate birth of Anakin, but alas no one seem to put two and two together. Even in Clones, there was mention of the long dead Jedi who started the whole clone army in the first place. Again, another red herring that didn't go anywhere.
Looking back on it, Phantom was the worst of the lot. There was absolutely no need for Anakin to be a little boy. I would have preferred him to be in his early teens and already established as a pilot or racer of sorts. That could have helped Attack of the Clones and accelerate Anakin's transformation. Then we could have had Vader in episode 3 killing jedi's, not Anakin with a hoody and eye shadow.
I know I whine alot about movies, but this was supposed to have been the movie to end it all and complete the circle. It was a good watch in the theatre, but it left me feeling kinda 'meh'

*a bit o' spoiler stuff follows*
To me, it made Anikin look really stupid ... metally ... DER? Really? if I kill all the jediz my wife will survive?
If Anikin did what all husbands are supposed to do and just listen to his wife, all would be okay.
and I don't get the point of 'destroy all the droids" ... like why? obviously the only reason is because none of it exists in the sequels ... but that's a pretty lame way about it. Just on a whim of the Emperor.
and 20 years of war downgrades technology? As far as history is concerned, war evolutionizes technology 10 fold ... if anything ... but George doesn't have control over that I guess.

Caution: Star Wars spoiler
If the Death Star was already under construction during episode 3, then that would mean that it took like twenty years to build a "new" battle station in episode 4...Does this make sense? Maybe George will tinker on with alterations to 'A New Hope' until the original movie is non existant.
Continuity is a pregnant dog, isn't it?

Either way, that ending scene was totally unecessary other than showing the 70's sci-fi control panels ... So since his wife died, the best thing to do is blow up planets ... And I thought for sure Darth Vader always blamed the Jedi for his wife's death ... yet he was told straight to his "face" 'you killed your wife'

If we learned anything from episode 2, Anakin is a freakin moron. All he does is whine, act snotty, make cow eyes at Padme, and blame everyone else but himself. Frankly Obi-wan should have smacked him upside the head a long time ago.
And is it just me, but don't all the romantic scenes between Anakin and Padme look like laundry detergent commercials?

"Whether you're frollicking on the plains of Naboo or slaughtering sandpeople on Tattooine, nothing cleans your Jedi robes better than new improved super strength ABC (A better clean?) laundry detergent."
With all the commercial tie ins lately, I wouldn't put it past George.

I give ROTS a 6 out of ten.
Pretty stupid, but ultimately kind of okay.
Not a pimple on the backside of the magnificent CLONE WARS shorts by Genndy Tartakovsky and Cartoon Network, though.
Better luck next prequelogy, George.
