Take an average Joe, has a day job or basic study in class at the local U. He has little or no experience in reading or writing comic books. Where does he go if he suddenly got the urge to look at these little wonders of our culture. Who does he ask and how would he know if the opinion he was given was a good one.
Enter the comic book geek club online. A fanatical bunch of readers and writers that could tell you that Kalel had his first fist fight with Ultra-Humanite in 1939 and would know exactly what I was talking about. Using references to obscure writers that have great notority amoung the knowledgable yet to the average layman like Joe, would go right over his head.
Joe is temporarily lost in the fandangle of words being tossed about, the histories, creative writings, stories of characters and graphic novels that he has never heard of. He wants to read a good comic and learn what all the hype over the past century of these wonderful peices of art is all about.
There are no real absolute courses one could readily take at a university or college on this subject. The technicality of it is bridged in many areas, literature, humanities and western culture, art and media, if one was to actually study comic books in their entirety within the bounds of a school they would find themselves adrift in technical books and whole theisis' on the ideas of creative development of the comic since its early days in Egypt. (heheh)
So Im stretching here and would like to see what you would tell Joe. Notable Authors in Comic book history, modern impactful writings that are a must read for any comic book enthusiast. This aside from the technical journals that can be found all over the internet. What would be a good introduction for the novice reader.
