Gerald sent me an invite to this board, so here I am. I'm Leonard Wong; been out there for the last 3 Calgary shows in May, selling Kaare Andrews' artwork for him. In Vancouver, I put on the bi-monthly Comicons and the annual Comix & Stories small press show (this year's is Sunday, Aug 28). Published a funnybook called Vancouver Special a few years back, to tie in with a Comix & Stories, looking into doing a second issue. Also serve as one of the administrators for the Comic Legends Legal Defense Fund. Anyhow, nice to be here. Don't forget to vote for the Shuster Awards. Online voting at www.torontocomicon.com/

Leonard Welcome to MIC,
Please feel free to drop us a post once in a while, on what's going on the coast for the local Comic Scene. If you are looking for contribution on your next book, let us know. I don't know if we qualify, being Calgarians- on a VANCOUVER SPECIAL book? ( Damian was on there though-with that lay over-hotel experience thing?)
Will we see you in May?
Thanks. ( Say "Howdy" to Kaare, Nixey, Skroce,Pia, Sadowski, Rolston for us...or better yet let'em know about MIC.)

I tricked Leonard into letting me do the book.... I went to Vancouver, dresed up like a Vancouverian, drank lots of coffee, complained about Toronto, and Calgary, and pretended not to be excited by all the bands that only stop in Vancouver, and nobody was any the wiser.... ;D

Hi Damian and Gerald,
Yes, I will be in Calgary again this year, selling art, shopping at the Liquor Barn and whatnot.
The first Vancouver Special was done as a tie-in to that year's Comix & Stories show (it was about the same price to run off copies at Kinkos as it was to get it done as a proper comic), so Damian got in the book by being one of the show attendees. (The fact that it was a funny story helped, too.) For the second issue, I'm looking at a squarebound thing, with probably a more specific focus than last time. Got to put things together to get a quote from my printer first; it's not going to be done in time for this year's C&S. Once all the pieces fall in place, I'll let you know, Gerald.

Leonard,
When & where is Comix & Stories this year? Do you have a guest lineup and other info-links set up?
Thanks.
G.

Sunday, Aug 28 Heritage Hall, 3102 Main Street, Vancouver, BC
Show hours are 11am - 5pm
Creator tables (3' x 3') are $30; publisher tables (3' x 6') are $60.
Still waiting for confirmation from the headline out of town guest, but some of the folks scheduled to be there are David Boswell (Reid Fleming, World's Toughest Milkman), Robin Bougie (Cinema Sewer), Verne Andru, Damian Wilcox, Robin Thompson and Ira Hunter (Champions of Hell), and James Lloyd. More to come, obviously.
And after the show, there's a yummy dinner and a lot of drinking to be done.
Leonard

d**nation, Leonard. I'd love to make it down for a Vancouver con, as would the rest of Vicious Ambitious I'm sure, but the timing never seems to work out, as we'll be doing a panel in Edmonton that weekend.
Soon, though. Soon.

COMIC LEGENDS Legal Defense Fund?? Is that what they call it now? Back in the day when Comic Legends in Calgary got raided, I was working for them. I worked at their Red Deer location, The Devenish location and two others which I can't remember as it was so long ago. It is so cool that the fund is named after them seeing as the case pretty much put the nail in the coffin for one of the best companies i ever worked for. Are you in contact with my old bosses Darren Ott or Dale Clark? It would be cool to say hi. -Rik van dyke
