Since we are not allowed pre-production story material for this event... what has been suggested by Nat Gertler, is to establish a THEME...
...take for example "FLIGHT" ( but that's taken).
Do we take on a vote for THEMES?
Like..."100" or " FIRE & ICE"
- Or all participants write down a word- drop it in a box and pull out - a THEME? Get the public to contribute words? Take three (castle-cheese-feather)and work them into the story.
- Or you can work as a team. - Or DO your OWN thing.
Suggestions?
Thanks. GarSeeYa!!!

I wondered how the whole story thing would work? I mean I know you can't bring in any direct pre-production work, but everyone's probably got a story in mind going in.
As far as a theme would go, that'd be pretty cool. Though, is it in the parameters of what Scott McCloud has set? I didn't find much on the story material other than it can't have nudity or bad language if you want to submit to his 24 hour anthology.

There is a copy of the 24 Hour Challenge at CK, for anyone to look over.
I didn't want to look too much, so it wouldn't influence my 24HC work. There is a HUGE variety of styles and topics and media used.
The other idea is to get some of the merchants involved. Donate a very small item that could start a story, place them in a box, and each Participant pulls one out. Get the comic started from there?
That way we get visual aid and a small gift to keep?
See how that works out, just a thought for now.

Scott McCloud suggests you flip open a dictionary, slap down your finger and use that word in the story somehow. That way you can't pre-prepare in any way. I've done the 24 hour comic thing before, and that is how we chose to do it. Can't remember what word we ended up with though... ahhh this is what lack of sleep does to you. Sometimes I forget things... wait, what were we talking about?

I think it's cool if we all choose a common theme from somewhere...such as 'Flight'. But wouldn't it be the greatest challenge that everyone try and do something different for the potential anthology? But then again it would also be a great challenge to try and capture something from a dictionary. In my opinion I think some people might be deterred or uninspired. But then again I could be wrong.

I like the common theme idea, mainly because I haven't thought of even the vaguest concept yet... I sort of suck at working without direction. Hopefully something will come to me.

It might be getting a little late to say this, but: I also like these ideas of a common theme or picking ideas out of a box or choosing words from a dictionary or using those random title generators from the 24HC website.
I figure that if we do something like that, then I can prove that I really did go in to 24HC without a pre-written story in mind, and, hopefully, it will make the crappy comic that I create seem a bit less crappy, heh heh.
So, yeah, I'm totally down with doing any of those ideas, if we can get them set up. Maybe all those of us who are interested in doing something like this could do it Saturday morning, 9:45ish, right before we start? I'll try to remember to bring a dictionary (maybe a French-English one, just to be funny, heh heh).
